HOMETOWN STRONG · PARADISE, CALIFORNIA

History & Timeline

A starting point for the stories behind the places we call home.

Before the milestones

The Gold Nugget Museum identifies the Maidu people as the region’s earliest inhabitants. The history of the Ridge begins long before the town’s incorporation. This collection will grow with carefully sourced accounts and contributions from the communities whose histories it shares.

1859 · The Dogtown Nugget

The discovery of the 54-pound Dogtown Nugget near Paradise is part of the mining history remembered by the Gold Nugget Museum.

1979 · Paradise incorporates

Paradise became an incorporated town in 1979, a milestone in the community’s civic history.

2007 · A home for railroad history

The Paradise Depot Museum opened to the public in July 2007 at Paradise Community Park, preserving another chapter of local history.

November 8, 2018 · The Camp Fire

The Camp Fire began on November 8, 2018. We remember the lives lost and the families and neighborhoods changed. Personal accounts belong to the people who lived them; sharing is always a choice.
