Our Story

Steve Main’s connection to Paradise, CA, runs deeper than geography. He was raised there, shaped by its community, and carried those roots with him as he built a distinguished thirty-year career in the health club industry across Northern Nevada. When the 2018 Camp Fire displaced more than 50,000 residents overnight, Steve watched lifelong friends and family lose everything in a matter of hours. His community taught him to be proactive in the face of setbacks, so he founded Hometown Strong.

The strength of his hometown extended to other communities. As the founder of Widow’s Mite in Carson City, NV, Steve had developed a proven model for supporting local small businesses during times of hardship. Widow’s Mite purchases products from neighborhood businesses and puts them in the hands of struggling community members. Hometown Strong extends that same philosophy to the place he has always called home.

Hometown Strong operates on a simple but powerful principle: real resilience starts locally. By purchasing goods directly from local, independently owned businesses, the organization ensures that every dollar invested remains inside the community it serves. Those resources are then delivered directly to families facing financial hardship, providing food, assistance with essential bills, and other critical support.

The scope of Hometown Strong’s commitment encompasses local business owners and struggling families alike. Whether the impact is immediate or long-term, large or small, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to restore dignity, rebuild neighborhoods, and strengthen the foundation of Paradise, CA.
